HISTORY OF DUPLESSIS

The history of Duplessis Cadillac, Inc. goes back to 1956. The company was established in Baton Rouge by Mr. Jim Austin, the founder of the original Oldsmobile franchise known as Jim Austin Motor Company.

Mr. Jim Austin operated both franchises until 1961 when he retired. He was then succeeded by his son, Mr. Charles W. Austin, who changed the name of the company to Austin Motor Company. Charles continued the dual dealership until his premature death in 1969 whenthe dual franchise was separated. Mrs. C. W. Austin assumed the operation until March of 1970. At that time, she entered into a buy-sell agreement with Mr. Sidney J. Duplessis, former vice-president and general manager. In 1970, Mr. Duplessis acquired the Cadillac franchise with Mrs. C. W. Austin as a financial participant. The company was then named Ausin-Duplessis, Inc. The company operated as such until 1974 when Mr. Duplessis acquired full ownership of the company and changed the name to Duplessis Cadillac, Inc.

The fleur-de-lis was adopted as its logo because it symbolized the shared French origins of the names Cadillac and Duplessis. In 1979, the company moved from its Scenic Hwy location to its new home on Airline Hwy. In addition, in 1979, Mr. Ron Duplessis joined the organization.

On April 7, 1988, the Pontiac, Buick, and GMC franchises in Gonzales were purchased by stockholders of Duplessis Cadillac, Inc. The new corporation known as Duplessis Pontiac Buick GMC, Inc was formed to operate these franchises with Mr. Ron Duplessis as the President.

In March, 1995, Mr. Ron Duplessis took control of Duplessis Cadillac. In November, 1997, he was awarded the Volvo franchise, which was then paired with Cadillac at the Airline Hwy location.

Through the years, service and integrity have been the standards that have made the franchises so successful.
